BAH HUMBUG! Christmas must be close. How do I know? I've just spent 3/4
hour queuing in the post office whilst people send stuff to folk they
never see and probably cant stand anyway.
I
have been trying to get this newsletter typed up and mailed out for ages
now but there is always something else that needs doing. Tonight though
there is to be a determined effort to get as much as possible done and
then publish and be damned. If I don't get very far with it there can
always be a sequel.
There will be a theme to the special prices offered in this newsletter.
All the deals are cash or cheque only where a special price is offered.
Credit Card sales are discouraged and will be at the normal prices.
To Order use the buttons, where provided
{on normal price items only}, or E-Mail us with your requirements
{for special price items} and we'll confirm availability and price
in a return e-mail, you send a cheque, we send the goodies
Remember, offers in this issue are good until
stocks run out or the 24th December - whichever comes first
Do please let
us know what you think of this way of doing the newsletter.

UPDATE.
Thanks to all of you who pre-ordered the annual. You
may have seen people on the web talking about having their copy and are
wondering where yours is. Well they arrived but unfortunately the post
office decided to see how well they would bounce. The answer to that is
that they don't.
Replacements are on the way from the USA and I will ship them as
soon as they arrive.
Our initial order is now sold out. I may have some slightly
damaged ones available when the insurance issue is resolved and I will
order a further supply if there is enough interest.
Whilst the 2006 annual recycled a few old articles from other
magazines the 2007 edition is all new work. We do have some of the 2006
issue if you want to have the set.
The cost in the UK is going to be somewhere between £10 & £12.

Freshwater Models
A new item we now have in stock is O
scale Billerica & Bedford 18' turntable kit from Freshwater Models. This
mostly resin kit makes this super little turntable. Its about the right
size for a Bachmann Porter.
We have these in stock now at £30.
Now in stock is a larger turntable
60' (15") Seller's
Turntable Kit
This O scale turntable
represents a late 19th century cast iron turntable that was popular in
the US and overseas. The kit features quality spincast resin and
Britannia metal parts. The 15" long bridge track is long enough to hold
an O scale DRGW K27 though it looks better with an American,
consolidation, mogul etc. Not a shake the box kit, it requires careful
assembly and attention to detail to build. I assemble the bridge and
end beams on a precision assembly fixture to make the assembly easier
for you! The kit will include all the parts you see in the picture of
the pilot model plus the bridge ties.
In stock now @

There
may be a bit of a delay in sending these out as I have to figure out how
to pack them individually as they came tome in bulk.
Delivery
will be in early January. They are expected in the USA on the 23rd
December.

The first batch of ready to run items from San Juan
arrived and, excepting the ones I am keeping and two I am working on
they have all now gone to their new homes. So what were they like? Well
they weren't quite as ready to run as one might have hoped but all the
issues were manageable and you still end up with a superb San Juan
freight car a lot quicker than building it yourself.
Both 0n3 & 0n30
Due to a design
flaw in the packaging many arrived with their wheels popped
out of the bearings. These simply pop back in. The packaging
is being altered for the next run
Just the 0n3
models
The Kadee 803
couplers are too low to the standards gauge. Adding 15 thou
of styrene on the bolster rubbing plates sorts that out.
this also improves the running.
The brake gear
catches. Sorted at the same time as the spacer as bit of
pruning clears this up. After all you cant see all the
brakes when the car is on the track.
Too much side
play on the wheels. i found that the wheels had too much
side play allowing the axle end to come out of the journal.
Two 10BA washers each side sorted that out.
With those items
attended to I am really happy with my freight cars. The 0n30
ones need a bit more doing to them and its a bit more brutal.
The 0n30 cars
They still come
fitted with 0n3 couplers which are too high and too big to
match Bachmann. This is because there is no agreed 0n30
coupler standard it is only sort of by default that the HO
standard is adopted because Bachmann adopted it. Add the 15
thou spacer anyway as it helps the truck turn.
Prise off the
Kadee 803's and trim the moulded in coupler pocket to be
full width right to the front. Assemble a Kadee 42 coupler
in its draft box and trim it to be minimal width. This
involves cutting the screw mounting ears off. It should then
be made to fit in the original draft box on the car and
adjusted for height. When happy I glued it with Dr Mikes
glue.
The brake gear
pruning has to be a bit more severe but again you cant tell
unless you crash the car.
These issues have all
been reported to San Juan and will, hopefully, be addressed in
the next release.
San Juan have announced two new ready to run models and are taking
orders now for an early 2007 delivery.
D&RGW 550 series 30’
Stock Car. There will be eight different car numbers
including 3 different body styles and 3 double deck cars.
These are scale
models with On3/On30 trucks, full underbody detail, grab
irons, insulated metal wheels, Kadee® couplers.
These models will be available late 2006. Limited quantity
of each number so order early to guarantee your order.
Were still taking
orders for these but the offer period is over. They can now
be found on the main website
Remember these are limited
production models and they are expected to sell out well before they are
delivered
These are the exhibitions we will be
attending in the near future.
It was great to see those of you who
said hello to us at the NEC where we were exhibiting our group
layout Ashbourne Park Road, part of the Henmore Dale Railway. At
the NEC we only had part of the layout on show. If you can come
along to the event below we will have all of the layout up and
available for you to have a go with.

Open Days
Just a quick note on open days. I just want to make it clear
that these aren't exhibitions in the sense that you come along
and watch layouts being operated by others. These are hands on
open days. There will be layouts, demonstrations and traders but
you might just find yourself operating one of the layouts or
having a go on one of the demo's
You are encouraged
to bring your own stuff along to show us and to give it a run.
If you have a model you are proud of bring it along to show us.
If you've got one you're stuck with bring it along and lets see
if we can point you in the right direction.
The Bradford event
last month was a major success and everyone enjoyed themselves.
The Mickleover event follows the same basic idead. The venue has
parking and is well connected to public transport. There
are
seating areas, copious tea and coffee supplies [even if you end
up making your own] so you can sit around and chat about your
models with your fellow modellers. Biscuit type snacks are
available. The Mickleover hall is handy for
the chippy, Chinese, bakers, Tesco's and two pubs.
Do come along and join in

Well I think that's it for
this issue, I guess I had better shut up or this will never get
published. Do please e-mail and let me know what you think of this
format. Its certainly easier for me to produce and being part of the
main www.ngtrains.com website its
easier to do special offers you can access directly.
