The annual bean counting for the evil taxman took longer than
planned due a number of unavoidable distractions. The knock on
effect of this has been that its taken until now to get it done
and produce this newsletter.
Even then this is going to be a brief
issue as we are now up against a new deadline with Porthmadog
show on the horizon.
Validity
There are no special offers in this
issue with an end date for the offer. Instead you need to be
aware that to stand a chance of getting any in stock items you
may order as a result of this newsletter we will need your order
here by 5pm on Wednesday 2nd May.
Holidays
Well its a sort of working holiday with
Porthmadog show next weekend and the Slim Gauge Circle at Bilton
the following weekend but in between we are staying in Wales to
drive some Festiniog Train. If you are around you'll find me
driving something yet to be decided on the Monday, Taliesin
Tuesday and Thursday and David Lloyd George on Wednesday if the
provisional roster comes to pass [anything could change between
now and then]

Lynton & Barnstaple Railway
- 2-6-2t Locomotives
The big news for this issue has to
be the news that we have acquired the 7mm Narrow Gauge
Lynton and Barnstaple loco kits previously offered by
Alan Gibson. These kits are to a scale of 7mm/foot and
can be built for 16.5mm or 14mm gauge.
We plan to test build some of
these over the summer with a view to refreshing a kit
first offered twenty years ago and then issue the kits
in the autumn. There are two kits, on for the original
trio Yeo, Exe and Taw and another for the later built
Lew.
Rather than repeat all the info
here go have a look at the page dedicated to these
models on the main website.
Special Offer
Not a news special but I should
mention that if you order one in advance and support us
with this project we are offering a special price. See
the main page

Hopefully the reintroduction of
these kits will be just the start of a small range of
L&B items

Delivery News
Accucraft
D&RGW
#50
Diesels
Some of you may have seen one of
these elusive engines reviewed in Narrow Gauge and
Shortline Gazette and been wondering where yours is.
I
asked Accucraft UK the same question. They have
completed a few models as review models and, due to a
motor shortage [see below], the main production won't
make it to the USA until July. There will then be the
usual delay whilst they get here.
Blackstone H0n3
K27's
These are being delivered in three
phases.
A small number of silent versions were delivered
at Christmas and have all gone to customers.
The first delivery of sound fitted engines have
arrived in the USA and have been sent out to
dealers. We have a few on their way here but not our
full order. They are on the way from the USA now.
The balance of the orders should be into the USA
in July
There
appears to be a bit of a motor crises going on with
models from the far east. I have been told its due to
problems with the change to lead free solder but I don't
know if this is true
Closures, Absences & Other Stuff
The
regular newsletter subscribers will have seen most of this announcement
below. So much for the making more time aspects of it, acquiring the L&B
engines wasn't even and scrap of an idea at that time.
As most of you will know
EDM models isn't my main job and that it has to fit around the day job
as a senior electrical engineer for a large UK consultancy which sees me
designing, modelling [in a computer] and commissioning traction power
supplies for railways in the UK and overseas. So its mega amps by day
milli amps by night!. This job has to take priority as it pays the
mortgage on the house.
You will also know
[because I've told you often enough] that my other hobby is as a
volunteer on the Festiniog Railway where I am a driver and have been
known to manage the odd loco project or two and design stuff like the
railways push pull train.
Over the last few years EDM
models has grown to the point where it and the day job clash, the
Festiniog barely gets a look in and I seem to be getting more and more
tired which in turn means I get more and more fed up with it all. A
couple of recent events have brought all of this into sharp focus and
have prompted a bit of a rethink which is going to result in a change in
the services we offer and some periods when the business is closed.
These are detailed below: -
Our custom works,
decoder installation and sound fitting service is suspended with
immediate effect and will last until we have cleared the backlog.
Only then will we consider taking more work but I may decide to get
on and build my own layout. Work already started will be completed.
We will be attending
Porthmadog show on the 5th & 6th of May, the Slim Gauge Circle
meeting on Sunday 13th May and the 7mm NGA Convention in Burton on
Trent on the 19th May but will be closed in between as I am staying
in Wales to drive some trains.
We will be closed 27th
July to 13th August due to some more train driving.
We may also be closed
at short notice for several weeks in the not to distant future if
certain aspects of the day job come to fruition and I end up making
a site visit to one of my current projects which happens to be in
the anti podes.
In no way should this be seen as any sort of closure, retreat or such
like, its a move to balance our life out a bit and re-kindle our
enthusiasm. we will continue to seek out narrow gauge items and bring
them to the UK. You may though see an increase in one off and short run
items offered only in these newsletters and never making it on to the
main website.
These are the exhibitions we
will be attending in the near future.
I've done it again,
promised to be brief and then gone on bit. The next issue is planned for
the end of May but lord knows what might happen between now and then. I
hope to see you at the upcoming shows and if you're around whilst I'm
playing trains do say hello
