EDM Models -
April 2008
Newsletter |
|
|
Welcome to the first, and well overdue, newsletter of 2008 . I guess the
first order of business ought to be to explain why the monthly
newsletter had disappeared until now. Those of you I have seen at shows
or spoken to on the phone will know some of the saga but for the rest of
you here are the highlights. |
-
Health:
A minor infection in my bad leg became a major
infection which defeated oral antibiotics resulting in my being out
of commission for four weeks and in hospital for some of that piped
in to draught domestos.
-
Work:
As most of you know EDM models isn't the day
job and we have been very busy at work with more work for New
Zealand (see earlier issues for that story). This has meant some
long hours and a constant game of catch up made worse by my being
off sick.
-
Software:
Whilst in
hospital the service provider I had used for years decided to alter
their provision and delete some software we used to run this site.
The move to a new service provider didn't go smoothly and we lost the
mailing list capability in the process
|
| The New
Newsletter Tool |
| As a
consequence of the move to a new service provider we've had to get some
new mailing list software. For now I have transferred the old members
list to it and will use it to send announcements that the main
newsletter is on the web site as before. This only uses a fraction
of the systems capabilities and over time I'll explore its capabilities.
Its supposed to be able to let me compose the newsletter in my mail
client [outlook] and then send it to the mailing list software which
will distribute it to you. That may mean that we eventually move to
having the newsletters just as e-mail. It ought to make them easier to
do which might mean I am more punctual with them, [no promises though] |
|
Validity of Offers |
|
Any offers in this newsletter are valid only until
30th April 2008 or whilst stocks last |
| NEW STUFF |
| We have two new hot products just being added to
the website. They are basically being added because of personal
recommendations from customers |
|
Sculptamold Modelling Compound |
Magic Water |
Having
just spent the weekend at Derby Model Exhibition listening
to Dave Bush raving about this super lightweight modelling
compound it needed a closer look.Dave's one problem with
it was that whilst it is regularly recommended in layout
building articles in the American magazines he found it was
difficult to get in the UK.
Well, I've found the UK source and its on order. |
Howard
Clark is to blame for this one!Magic Water is a fantastic
compound for modelling all sorts of water. It comes highly
recommended by Paul Scoles in his modelling DVD's and again
Howard had trouble getting it in the UK and e-mailed the
company.
EDM Models is now the UK distributor for this product, |

Progress Reports |

Rustenburg Platinum Mines
Bagnall 0-4-2
This new kit, coming as
a joint production
between EDM and Inscale Models of South Africa, came as a
surprise to me too. As it was, Inscale had some production and
marketing difficulties we could help with.
Interest has
been high with 26 of the first batch of 30 reserved and a
number ordered as RtR models to be built in SA.
I had
hoped to have them on sale at the 7mm NGA but we are going
to miss that by a couple of weeks. We expect to ship towards
the end of May. we'll still take reservations at the shows
though and may have the 2nd Pilot model built as
Gelert on display
 |
 |
|
 |
Manning Wardle 2-6-2T's
Lynton & Barnstaple Railway
These kits
are still being worked on and are receiving a lot more work
than was originally planned.
I won't go
into more detail at the moment as I have promised a detailed
report to those with reservations |

Tail Lamp
Well that turned out to be longer
than I planned. Things remain very busy here with insufficient hours in
the day. However, I am taking a break in the first week of May. Being in
Porthmadog for one weekend and then in Burton on Trent the following
weekend offers too good an opportunity to miss so I will be spending the
week driving trains on the Festiniog Railway or fastening Blanche back
together
Bye for now
