May 2010 - New to EDM Models is the San Juan range of transfers. At

Banded Peak Ranch
oilfield owner William "Gramps" Hughes had his name painted
on the narrow gauge tank cars of the Union Tank Car Company
(UTLX) to please his grandchildren. In the fifties, these
cars were loaded at Chama, NM and transported to the
refinery in Alamosa, CO. The
following decal sets will letter one UTLX frameless tank car

The D&RGW/RGS steam engines went through
several different lettering and numbering schemes during
their service. For example the changes in the cab numbering
style for the 455, pre and post wreck. We have attempted to
develop a decal sheet that will allow the modeller to
duplicate almost all engine markings. We recommend that the
modeller refer to pictures that show the specific engine
being modeled.
The following decal set will letter one of two D&RGW
styles and one of two RGS styles.

One
hundred 30' wooden flat cars were built built by the D&RG in
the mid-1880s and were numbered from 6000 to 6099. However,
the railroad soon required cars with greater capacity and
these cars were replaced with heavier capacity cars as
needed. Most of these cars were scrapped or sold, but a few
were converted into Maintenance of Way service and survived
to the end of service. None of these cars remained in
revenue service by the end of World War II. This decal set
covers the paint and lettering scheme for these cars from
the time of the creation of the D&RGW, in 1921, until their
end of revenue service, around 1944.
The following
decal sets will letter one 6000 series 30' wooden flat car
as they were painted in service on the D&RGW:

his decal
set is intended to cover D&RGW Maintenance of Way equipment
for which model kits are readily available, but otherwise
cannot be fitted into a general category of M.O.W.
equipment; specifically, the ex-600 series flat cars that
were converted to M.O.W. service, 06051, 06084, and 06092.
While we normally design our decal sets to cover all the
lettering schemes of a car over its' life on a railroad,
with only one exception, we were unable to find any pictures
of these cars in any paint scheme other than the post-1939,
gray with black lettering/flying herald paint scheme. This
set covers this last lettering scheme. Those interested in
modeling these cars in the earlier paint scheme (red paint
with white lettering) can use our
6000 series flat car decal set and make an educated
guess as to the actual lettering used on the car.
The following decal sets will letter
one of these cars in the flying herald paint scheme:

Flangers |
|
 |
This decal set was created for San Juan
Car Company’s Flanger OD kit in On3. This set will letter
Flanger OD, OE or OH in white lettering, or Flanger OD or OH
in black lettering. The lettering on the Flangers saw the
use of different stencils when they were repainted and we
have included all of these differences in this set. Multiple
choices of repack and reservoir dates are also included.
These combinations of Flanger lettering options were chosen
as the blades of these three Flangers were very similar.
Flanger OE was almost identical in appearance to OD, and the
other minor differences between these three flangers can
easily be modeled using the SJCC kit.

This
decal set is designed for the 1930-1951 time period, but can
be used for most cars back to 1912 or earlier. The car names
included are only for the cars existing in the 1930s, and
the express markings are only for 1918 and later.
Lettering was always gold until the cars were painted
yellow. At different times, Gold Leaf and Imitation Gold
paint were used. The use of gold striping was discontinued
in 1912. The actual lettering styles and layouts for the
1870 to 1912 period are hard to determine from photos
because the photo emulsions in those days did not register
the lettering on the red cars. One photo labeled as taken in
1886 does show "Denver & Rio Grande" on the letterboard in
the same style as these decals.
The following decal
sets will letter 4 to 7 passenger cars depending on the
types of cars being lettered*. The Nn3 set will letter 5 to
8 passenger cars.** Please note: The Nn3 set will not have
the car end lettering or the white reservoir test and repack
dates found in the larger scale sets. The lettering is too
small to print let alone see!. |
